LOS ANGELES: Brisbane-based digital entertainment company Hoodlum, broadcast partner ABC (US) and the producers of LOST have won a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy ® Award on Saturday 12 September in Los Angeles for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media – Fiction.
The globally recognised award was based on Hoodlum’s work on the ‘Dharma Wants You’ project, a ground-breaking multiplatform experience that enabled audiences to interact with the TV series LOST.
This is the second consecutive nomination the company has received for their work on the hit program LOST and their first Emmy win.
Nathan Mayfield, founder of Hoodlum said this is a huge achievement for Hoodlum.
“It has strengthened our ties with the ABC studios in the US and has already opened so many doors for Australia to be viewed a real global player in this exciting world where creativity and technology are truly converging,” Mr Mayfield said.
“Hoodlum’s success has seen huge growth in the past three years and we are excited by this monumental recognition.”
This win for Hoodlum also represents Brisbane’s globally strong creative industry, driven by local innovation and talent.
Brisbane Marketing’s Investment Attraction division plays a strategic role in securing investment within the creative and multimedia industries.
“Hoodlum’s global recognition at the 2009 Emmy’s is also recognition of Brisbane’s substantial growth in the creative and multimedia industries,” Brisbane Marketing Director of Investment Attraction, Daniel Havas said.
“Brisbane has been described as a "hot spring" of innovation by US think tank McKinsey & Company; and as Australia's "new world city", these attributes help cultivate talent to support the City’s creative industries.”
Hoodlum’s international acclaim is further attributed on a local level through its recent recognition as one of five finalists for the Creativity award in the 2009 Lord Mayor's Business Awards (LMBA).
The Brisbane-based company took out the 2008 Creativity Award, and its success this year will be determined on Thursday 8 October when all winners will be announced at the LMBA Gala dinner.
