The ecosciences precinct is Australia’s first centre dedicated to solving some of the country’s biggest environmental issues. Research at the ecosciences precinct positions Brisbane as a global leader in finding the balance between enhancing our quality of life, lessening the impact on our native environment and developing strong industries. Climate change, mineral and petroleum resources, water issues and environmental balance are priority research areas.

The Queensland Health research facilities at Coopers Plains are being expanded to create a Science Centre of Excellence. Around 200 scientists from Queensland Health, the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation will join together to create a knowledge centre for health and food. The objective will be to focus on ways to help people live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives through advances in healthcare, medicine, food and nutrition. It will be the first of its kind in Australia and covers both human and animal health, as well as food sciences in one physical location.
The Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence is a world-class research, education, clinical practice and industry precinct set in Brisbane on a 1.7 hectare site at the centre of Australia’s rapidly growing biotechnology heart. The precinct includes the Translational Research Institute and BioPharmaceuticals Australia, also known as the Smart Therapies Institute. This facility will be the first institute of its kind in Australia – and one of only a few in the world – to have the ability to manage the discovery, clinical testing and manufacture of new biopharmaceuticals and treatments all in the one place.
The creative industries precinct is Australia’s first site dedicated to creative experimentation and commercial development in the creative industries. The $60 million (AUD) creative industries precinct boasts some of the most advanced digital facilities in Australia. The precinct is at the forefront of pioneering international research initiatives in creative industries policy, applied creative industries research, digital media design and the creative and performing arts. This is enhanced through its association with the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation and the Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation.
