International Trade Development – Sister Cities

Brisbane Marketing’s department for International Trade Development focuses on capitalizing on trade opportunities resulting from Brisbane’s Sister City relationships with the following cities:

  • Chongqing (PRC)
  • Shenzhen (PRC)
  • Kaohsiung (Taiwan)
  • Kobe (Japan)
  • Daejeon (Korea)
  • Auckland (New Zealand)
  • Semarang (Indonesia)

The new Department dovetails neatly with Invest Brisbane, complementing investment activities with focused trade development initiatives. Uniquely, Brisbane is in a position to take economic advantage of its international city based relationships as the majority of global trade is effected between cities. Enjoying the reputation of having Australia’s largest city government, and as Australia’s fastest growing city, Brisbane is well renowned in the Asia Pacific as a trading partner.

The department operates on a client account management basis, and takes a demand led approach. Export opportunities in target industry sectors are identified in priority sister cities, and marketed to Brisbane based organizations. Once qualified for each client, the opportunities are introduced into client sales cycles in partnership with the Australian Trade Commission (AUSTRADE) and selected peak industry bodies.
